Unknown Boy

This little boy was so endearing I just could NOT resist. His portrait is almost as charming as he was.

This is a work done in silverpoint. Silverpoint is actually a process where a tempered silver wire is used to draw onto a specially prepared ground. What you see is actually a very fine layer of silver. It cannot be erased and does not smudge. When it is new the piece strongly resembles graphite although it has more sheen. Gradually, over a period of several months the silver oxidizes and becomes a softer brown color. This piece was completed in September 2007 and so is about ready for framing and sale.

This painting is 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. It is silverpoint on 1/4 inch MDF board. It will be surface mounted on a second board and framed in a custom frame. It was completed in 2007 and will not be sold prior to the end of 2008.
