Bristlecone Pine

Scorpion

I'm not sure why I felt compelled to paint a scorpion. Perhaps it has to do with my upcoming trip to the Grand Canyon. Whatever the reason, this is a painting I dreamed one night and then felt absolutely driven to paint. What's more, I felt driven to paint it LARGE - it is VERY large which gives it a significant presence. This is a painting that will dominate the room. The background has a lot of interest and depth created by using a knife and laying n red-violet and blue-violet with a vigorous and multi-layer method. Then the scorpion was painted with a brush in a pale, subdued yellow, picking up some of the background color to create sophisticated blendings. Finally, highlights and details were generously added in an impasto manner to create even further texture and interest.

This is a work done in oil on gallery wrapped canvas. The edges are painted to match the background so it does not require framing. It is 30 inches by 40 inches.

Scorpion is available for your purchase for the price of $800. That price includes shipping and handling in continental United States. Other locations please contact Valry for shipping costs.
