This is the painting that keeps coming home and finding pride of place above my fireplace. It's truly dramatic. And possibly part of that is the struggle I had to create it. I started and did not like it and painted over it. And did the same thing again. Then the iris finally began to take shape - in white on the dark background. At last it pleased me, but it was not done. For weeks I agonized over taking brush to that canvas, afraid of destroying the promising beginning. But, as you can see, I did eventually find the courage. The background is actually dark green, not as black as the picture indicates. And there is some very nice impasto and pleasant color blending.

This painting is 18 inches by 24 inches and is painted with oil paints on Gallery Wrapped Canvas. It was painted in 2008. It is attractively framed in a simple wooden frame.
