In the Old Testament book of Daniel there is a story about a hand
appearing and writing on the wall, "Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin" which
Daniel interprets "Numbered, Numbered, Weighed, Wanting and Divided." In
this painting the words Meni Meni Tekle echo that "numbered, numbered,
weighed..." and we are left wondering if the phrase ends with the earth being found wanting and
doomed or does it end with the phrase "well-done, good and faithful ones."
Or maybe the words mean "Bob was here."
This painting is 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches on 140 pound watercolor paper. It was painted in 2005 with acrylic paints. It is framed in a simple wooden frame.
Meni Meni Tekle is no longer for sale -- it has been sold.
