More precious because they are so fleeting -- the lovely Day Lilly only has a single day to bloom.
My Mamma loves Day Lillies. Mamma lives with us and that's another wonderful thing in my life. Actually, I think she loves almost every type of flower. Anyway, we have a large flower bed filled with Day Lillies, all different colors, and they are something else when they are in bloom. She likes me doing floral paintings. And, as you know, when Mamma's happy, everyone is happy.
This painting was created by doing a detailed pencil drawing and then carefully adding many transparent washes of acrylic paint. All of the detail that you see in the painting is that pencil drawing showing through the transparent paint. It is surface mounted on a second sheet of watercolor paper that is heavily textured and painted a rich brown. Then I had it professionally framed in a custom-made frame (isn't that a pretty moulding -- sort of gold, sort of silver, sort of platinum -- very classy and will fit almost any decor.)
