Recently I was in Denver on a business trip but decided to take one, single day for myself before returning home. I spent the day at Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. It was a day of warm sunshine on the towering red rocks of Garden of the Gods contrasted with deeply shadowed tiny rooms that were home to ancient ghosts in the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. Then, a few days ago, as I sat in the hospital for eight long hours while mamma had surgery, I set up my easel and painted the day away. This piece is a combination of two memorable days, one a day of lazy sunshine from America's heartland, one a day of long hours that passed more quickly for the opportunity to create and to share that creative process with others who also waited.
